Although adding fibers may sound more complicated, in turn, it provides many advantages:

- Simplication of the muffler construction: less parts, more straight-forward design

- Enhances volume/performance ratio (cf. examples in motorbiking)

- Reduces shell ring thus opening up the possibility of simpler muffler shell construction

- Thermal insulation properties may make possible the removal of heat shields around the muffler
