Hot Compression and Cold Compression Molding

This process uses a closed mold in a hydraulic press. The investment in equipment is considerably lower because less pressure is required and reinforced plastic molds are used. Applications include the production of chairs, electricity distribution boxes and trays.

The reinforcement and resin are dispensed into the mold cavity and pressure is applied to mold the piece. In cold compression the polymerization is obtained at room temperature. In hot compression, high temperatures are used and the cycle is shortened. The more commonly used resins are the polyesters with high reactivity combined with mineral contents to increase strength and lower costs.
